IndyCars fill 11 more spot for '500'

Indianapolis, IN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Scott Sharp led 11 drivers who qualified
for the 91st running of the Indianapolis 500. The No.8 Rahal Letterman Honda
used a four-lap average of 223.875 m.p.h. to qualify for the final position on
row four and the top spot available on day two of qualifying.
Also qualifying for the "500" were: Jeff Simmons, Ed Carpenter, Darren
Manning, Buddy Rice, Kosuke Matsuura, A.J. Foyt IV, Vitor Meira, Davey
Hamilton, Sarah Fisher and Buddy Lazier.
For Hamilton, who suffered a horrible accident in 2001 that required more than
20 surgeries, it was a beautiful way to return to racing.
"I was a bit nervous to be honest," said Hamilton. "It's been six years since
I've been in that line."
When asked about getting back into a race car after a big accident, Hamilton
replied, "First it was save my legs, then to walk and get stronger. It was a
four-year process doing that. The last two years I've been ready."
Lazier's speed of 221.380 m.p.h. is the slowest of the 22 qualifiers.
Eleven more drivers will qualify next Saturday and Sunday, May 20th will be
"Bump Day."
Brazilian Helio Castroneves captured the pole for this year's Indianapolis
500. The No.3 Penske Racing driver posted a four-lap average of 225.817 m.p.h.
to edge his close friend Tony Kanaan for the top spot.
The pole victory was Castroneves' second pole at Indy, third of the season and
20th of his IndyCar career.
The Indianapolis 500 is schedule for Sunday, May 27th.
