Ducks aim for series win against Canucks

05/03/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Anaheim Ducks will try to wrap up their Western Conference semifinal series tonight, when they host the Vancouver Canucks in Game 5 from the Honda Center.

The Ducks took a firm hold on this best-of-seven set Tuesday night, as they posted an overtime victory in Vancouver to take a three games to one lead in the series.

In Game 4, it was Travis Moen's rebound goal just 2:07 into the extra session that lifted Anaheim to the 3-2 victory at General Motors Place.

After the Ducks erased a two-goal deficit with a pair of markers in the third period, the overtime was short-lived. Near the two-minute mark, the puck was held by Scott Niedermayer, who released a wrist shot from the left point. The puck never made it to the net due to heavy traffic near the goal mouth, but it caromed into the low slot, where Moen was able to knock in the rebound. It was the third goal of the postseason for the winger.

Chris Pronger tallied a goal and an assist for the Ducks, while Niedermayer added an assist. Prior to Tuesday's game, both Pronger and Niedermayer were named as finalists for the Norris Trophy, which is given annually to the NHL's best defenseman. Each of the players have won the award once previously.

This is just the third time since the 1968-69 campaign that teammates have been selected as finalists for the Norris in the same season. Bobby Orr and Ted Green from the Boston Bruins were nominated in 1969, and Nicklas Lidstrom and Chris Chelios of the Detroit Red Wings were picked in 2002.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere allowed two goals on 26 shots in the Game and Teemu Selanne also scored in the Game 4 triumph.

Markus Naslund and Brendan Morrison scored for the Canucks, who returned home after a split in the first two games of the series, but dropped both tilts at GM Place. Vancouver now has to travel back to southern California in an attempt to stave off elimination in Game 5.

Roberto Luongo stopped all 19 shots he faced through two periods, but allowed two goals in the third and watched a two-goal lead turn into a devastating loss. Luongo ended with 28 saves.

Luongo was named a finalist for both the Hart and Vezina trophies as the league's most valuable player and best goaltender, respectively.

On the injury front, the Canucks had defenseman Kevin Bieksa back in the lineup Tuesday for the first time since he suffered an undisclosed injury against Dallas in Game 7 of the conference quarterfinals. Bieksa led all Vancouver defenseman in the regular season with 42 points (12 g, 30a).

Anaheim was 26-6-9 as the home club during the regular season, while the Canucks were 23-15-3 as the visiting team.

The Ducks were 3-0-1 (1 OT loss) in four regular-season meetings with the Canucks this season. This is the first-ever playoff series between the two franchises.

If necessary, the series will head back to Vancouver for Game 6 on Sunday night.
